Tips for Choosing Your New Kitchen

The kitchen is one of the most important areas of the house. A well designed, quality kitchen can serve you and your family for years to come. If you are considering changing your kitchen to something different, perhaps through professional kitchen renovation, you want to make careful choices to ensure the result is a kitchen you can be proud of.

There are many parts of the kitchen that must be critically considered when deciding on a new kitchen to be installed. Consider some of them, and some vital tips to help you make the right choices.

1. Kitchen layout
The layout should be top of your planning list. When considering the ideal kitchen layout, think about how it affects your workflow. What is the relationship between the sink and the stove? Are there any obstacles to the refrigerator? How about the storage space for regularly use items and ingredients? A practical tip will be to keep the fridge away from the wall oven, and directly-used ingredients (think pasta) close to the stove.

2. Cabinets and countertops
Kitchen cabinets are an essential part of any kitchen. They make for orderliness, reduce clutters on countertops, and improve the general kitchen appearance. When selecting the appropriate kitchen cabinet, consider the material, color, design, handle type and finishing, and how this fits in with your longevity goals and general kitchen design. Also consider how these fit in with your countertop choices. Countertops with cabinets beneath them may allow for better organization and control.

3. Washing space, style and location
You just can’t take away the need to wash from the kitchen, can you? How do you manage your washing? Are you planning on getting a dishwasher? If so, a single sink should be sufficient. Otherwise, you might need a sink with multiple bowls to make your task easier. The sink and dishwasher are best placed side by side, plus the recycling cabinet if available. Also consider the kind of finish you prefer for your sink, and how the size and style matches with you general kitchen theme.

4. Kitchen appliances
Please, never overlook your kitchen appliances when planning your kitchen. With many appliances needing access to power, and some even requiring a bit of pipework, a lot of thought should go into the kind of appliances you need. Also keep in mind that while some are movable, some appliances are not.

5. Plan
Planning, planning… that’s what we’ve been trying to do, right? You have to start with your budgetary constraints.
